Maneuverability & Landing
Paratrooping: Maneuverability & Landing
The United States Air Force wanted to find a creative way to be able to teach new recruits the basic laws of paratrooping. The use of a simulation allows recruits to have a full understanding of exactly how the parachute will react to wind, gravity, and current height. By allowing the cadets to learn through a 3D simulation, they are able to gain a full understanding of when exactly to pull the parachute, how to maneuver, and how to land so that they are able to jump and land safely. This 3D simulation is delivered via the web and is integrated into a learning management system. Overall, this game-like scenario teaches students when to effectively pull the parachute and how to maneuver the parachute while descending, providing a safe alternative to learning how to become a paratrooper. The lifelike animations and environment provides for an immersive experience for the students which allows them to see firsthand the consequences if they do not follow the guidelines provided by the instructor in a safe setting.
