Paratrooping: Maneuverability & Landing

Paratrooping: Maneuverability & Landing

The United States Air Force wanted to find a creative way to be able to teach new recruits the basic laws of paratrooping. The use of a simulation allows recruits to have a full understanding of exactly how the parachute will react to wind, gravity, and current height. By allowing the cadets to learn through a 3D simulation, they are able to gain a full understanding of when exactly to pull the parachute, how to maneuver, and how to land so that they are able to jump and land safely.  This 3D simulation is delivered via the web and is integrated into a learning management system. Overall, this game-like scenario teaches students when to effectively pull the parachute and how to maneuver the parachute while descending, providing a safe alternative to learning how to become a paratrooper. The lifelike animations and environment provides for an immersive experience for the students which allows them to see firsthand the consequences if they do not follow the guidelines provided by the instructor in a safe setting.

Prison Guard Procedures: The Extraction Process

Prison Guard Procedures: The Extraction Process

This 3D simulation was created as a role playing game that walked a new prison guard through the inmate extraction process. As a prison guard the user is initially provided with classroom training to learn the procedures to use in order to extract and move an inmate. This process has proved to be effective for formal training of the guards; however, the the Federal Bureau of Prisons determined that creating simulations of possible scenarios that the prison guards might encounter during this process would be an effective way to prepare new guards. It was concluded that a 3D lifelike simulation of the actual extraction process that a prison guard would take to move an inmate would be an effective pilot for developing these types of learning simulations. The simulation is completely browser-based and resides inside a learning management system allowing for the tracking of user’s progress and success rate.
